The Bournemouth Heart Club is one of only a few dedicated cardiovascular exercise facilities in the UK. Located within the grounds of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital it is ideally placed to provide residents of East Dorset and West Hampshire with a safe environment to recover and then maintain their health, following cardiac events and procedures. We also exist to provide exercise classes and health advice for people at risk of coronary artery disease or who suffer from associated vascular conditions.
The Heart Club is an independent charity that was founded in 1991 and since 1996 has operated out of a purpose built facility overlooking the Royal Bournemouth Hospital lake. It includes two gymnasiums fully equipped with state of the art exercise machines, a members’ lounge and tea bar; changing rooms and showers; a large members’ car park and full time reception and office staff. We also have an on site health assessment facility for members wishing to join our Keep Well programme by self referral as opposed to joining via a hospital rehabilitation course or primary care referral.
NHS guidelines recommend that adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week. However for people with pre-existing health conditions, physical exercise is best taken under the supervision of appropriately qualified staff. This is why Bournemouth Heart Club exercise instructors hold the gold standard BACPR level 4 qualification, which ensures members can happily exercise to their full potential in a friendly and safe environment.
“Exercise can be fun and also help to prevent future heart disease. Regular exercise can make a big difference to our lives.”
